Cars I've Owned

I have always been fascinated by machines and things mechanical.  So, how could I not love cars? Automobiles, in particular, are a telling reflection of the development of modern society.  They can also be a reflection of their owners.  For the most part, I have usually driven nice vehicles.  There have been a lot and it seems that most of them have been Fords.  If finances were not a constraint, I'd probably drive a Jaguar or an Aston-Martin.

We now have 3 cars and a motorcycle in my driveway.

2002 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer
I traded the Mountaineer in on this Explorer a couple of years ago.  It's my primary vehicle and it has been a good one, so far.  Planning to keep it for a while.

1992 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 Conv
We've had the Mustang for more than 10 years.  It's been a great car and lots of fun to drive.  I'm currently doing some restoration work and giving it a new top and fresh paint.

1995 Ford Probe GT

Bought this one for my daughter's 16th birthday and left it outside the night before with a huge red bow on top.  I was awakened the next morning to loud screaming.  Seems I made a good choice.

This was my daughter's first vehicle.  She doesn't ride it as much, now that she has a car to drive.  Of course, she doesn't want me to sell it either.

Don't think I'll be able to remember all the vehicles I've owned, but here goes.

1997 Mercury Mountaineer - Bought in Dearborn, MI when I moved there.  Was a great vehicle, but it was rusting within a couple of years.  I blame the large quantities of road salt used in the Detroit area.  Was also disappointed to learn that the front wheels were chain driven. Traded the Mountaineer in on a new Explorer about a year after I moved to Austin, TX.

1988 Ford Aerostar Cargo Van - Bought in Shawnee, OK.  It was originally brown, but I painted it green.  I stripped the whole thing down and painted it inside and out.  Did a lot of road trips in this baby.  At almost 200K miles, I traded it in on the Mountaineer.  Wish I still had it.

1994 Chevrolet Lumina Sedan - This was a GAI-Tronics company car.  Picked it up new in Ft. Worth.  It was dark charcoal with red interior, my choice of colors.  Hated to part with it, but the company was willing to pay mileage instead.

1992 Chevrolet Lumina Sedan - Another GAI-Tronics company car.  The cars were on a 26 month lease.  This one was blue.  Can't remember if I chose the color or if it had already been ordered.  Didn't like it as much as the grey one.

1990 Pontiac 6000 - This was my first GAI-Tronics company cars.  I inherited it from my predecessor.  Didn't have it long before the new Lumina arrived.

1989 Geo Metro - Leased a little white Metro while I was living in Dallas, TX.  I was driving to Louisiana quite a bit and the great gas mileage was appealing.  Cooksey and I even drove it to California.  Overall, the car was a price of crap.  The 3 cylinder Suzuki engine and tiny AC compressor could barely keep up.  If I hadn't had the windows tinted, it wouldn't have been tolerable in the Texas heat.  Was glad to turn it in when the lease was up.

1989 Ford Probe GT Turbo - Saw the Probe on the lot in Great Falls, MT when they first came out.  Just couldn't resist.  Drove it all over the country selling books.  Wrecked it.  Repaired it.  Drove it a bunch more.  An absolute blast to drive.  Didn't really need it after I had a company car and put it out by the street near our house in Ft. Worth with a for sale sign on it.  It sold almost as fast as it drove.

1988 Ford Mustang Hatchback - With a new baby, we were looking to downsize.  Since we were living in Montana, we didn't think we needed air conditioning.  Big mistake.  Plus, the 4 cylinder engine couldn't even maintain highway speed through the mountains.  Didn't keep it long.

1986 Mercury Cougar XR-7 Turbo - Still one of my all-time favorites.

1985 Ford Mustang GT Turbo - My first real sports car.

1963 Ford Falcon - My first project car.

1978 Datsun B210 - This was our first car after returning to the U.S. from the Philippines and probably the only car I actually made a profit on.
